This is the fourth in a series of notes posts about Mozilla Drumbeat. It summarizes ideas related to building a Drumbeat ground game and doing local events. Many of these ideas are now in the Drumbeat:Conga proposal. The notes are drawn from comments posted online and many many face to face conversations. Poster campaign for One Web Day?
On Friday, I asked for simple Mozilla One Web Day campaign ideas. People have offered up good suggestions both online and verbally. One suggestion I got face-to-face was a basic poster campaign celebrating the open web. It might look something like this: More Poster campaign for One Web Day?
How should we celebrate One Web Day?
As Mitchell argued recently, the web is a precious public resource. It’s a resource worth protecting and improving. This is what Mozilla is about. It’s also a resource worth celebrating. Which is where One Web Day comes in. More How should we celebrate One Web Day?
Drumbeat notes #3: overview and slides
I’ve posted two new items as a part of my Drumbeat notes series — a simple slide deck and a public wiki. They provide an overview and invite feedback on the Drumbeat concept. Here are the slides: More Drumbeat notes #3: overview and slides
Drumbeat notes #2: topics we might cover
This is the second in a series of ‘notes’ posts about Mozilla Drumbeat. It rolls in thoughts from people listed at the top of my last post plus Gina, Joi, Asa, Jim, Ronaldo, Sunil and Bruno. Mostly, it focuses on the question: what big Internet topics and issues should Drumbeat tackle? More Drumbeat notes #2: topics we might cover
Roll your own Service Week
I really want to help .orgs tap the power of the open web during Mozilla Service Week. The challenge: finding a fun and helpful task I can take on in just a few hours that also fits my skill set. I didn’t find a perfect match in the Idealist volunteer database, so I’ve decided to roll my own Service Week activity: a 2 hour Creative Commons licensing clinic, plus a screening of RIP: A Remix Manifesto. Drumbeat notes #1: core concept and framework
This is the first in a series of ‘notes’ posts about Drumbeat, mostly from conversations with Gunner, Mitchell, Bob, Jesse, Elizabeth and people I talked to at the cottage. It covers the bits of Drumbeat that are starting to feel more solid and includes a whiteboard doodle I did w/ Mitchell. More Drumbeat notes #1: core concept and framework
Starting a drumbeat for the open web
Back from holidays, ideas are evolving quickly on the next million Mozillians thread I started late last month. People have provided great feedback and evolutions. Some are also saying: ‘let’s clarify and communicate what we’re actually trying to achieve here.’ More Starting a drumbeat for the open web
Gone fishing, and looking for feedback
Today’s my last day at a computer before two weeks off the grid. No electricity. No phones. No computers. The best two weeks of the year. More Gone fishing, and looking for feedback
NMM example #2: freedom in the cloud
Recently, I’ve found myself in more and more discussions about identity, data and freedom in the cloud. Zittrain did a great op-ed a few weeks back that suggests why: the cloud brings us wonderful social connections and new applications, but it also has its dangers. Personal dangers like data and identity lock in. And web-wide dangers such as limitations on the freedom to innovate. A few people have been talking about this for a while. But, for most people who use the web, this issue is just coming on radar or isn’t there at all. More NMM example #2: freedom in the cloud
