Need your vote: open web art award

In a little over 10 days, I will be giving out the first Mozilla Open Web Art Award at the Transmediale Festival in Berlin. Voting for the winner is currently happening on the Mozilla Drumbeat website. Voting ends February 4.

Last year, Mozilla Drumbeat and the Transmediale Festival announced this new award as a way to stimulate art and creativity using open web technology. We received over 100 entries. The jury has narrowed it down to three finalists:

Thimbl: Decentralized Micro Blogging

Thimbl is a free, open source, distributed micro-blogging platform. “If you’re tired of being locked in to one micro-blogging platform, or a single social network. Or you’re weary of corporations hi-jacking your updates in the pursuit of money, then thimbl is for you”. The application is not yet public.

Booki: Open Web Publishing

More than just a free software Booki helps you make free books – beautiful real paper books and ebooks. Sign up here and start creating your own books online.

Graffiti Markup Language: Graffiti Analysis

Graffiti Markup Language (.gml) is a universal, XML-based, open file format designed to store graffiti motion data. The format is designed to maximize readability and ease of implementation for even hobbyist programmers. GML is intended to be a simple bridge between ink and code, promoting collaborations between graffiti writers and hackers.

How the voting works

First, explore the projects. When you’ve made up your mind and voted (top right side of the project page) let us know in the comments why your favorite should win the award. What did you – in particular – like? How do you think the project supports the open web? Would you want to somehow contribute or get involved? Your vote and input directly influences the final decision. May the best project win!

Please note: Voting requires you’re a registered user. If you don’t have a Drumbeat user account, create one here. The jury may consider other relevant factors such as project activity outside drumbeat.org.
